What if we could hack human ability?

That was the whole brief. For one weekend, engineers, founders and builders from across Bengaluru drilled, soldered, 3D-printed and programmed their way toward assistive tech that covers speech, vision, hearing, mobility and locomotion.

Most of the room had never held a soldering iron before Saturday morning. By Sunday evening there were self-learning Braille keyboards, wheelchair game controllers, AI kitchen companions and indoor navigation systems demoing on stage.

The event opened with empathy exercises (participants navigated the venue blindfolded, ate lunch without sight, and ran wheelchair relays) so every team built from lived frustration, not guesswork.

Before the event, a community member shipped a carpooling app so people could share rides to Polaris. Even the commute was a build.

80% had never written firmware. AI closed the gap.

First-time hardware builders leaned on Claude all weekend: generating sensor drivers, debugging servo jitter, wiring AI vision into kitchen glasses and LLM logic into Braille keyboards. Sessions ran throughout both days:

Duo: the companion that makes rehab a game

A recreational companion robot for people with limited mobility, whether from temporary injuries, stroke, spinal injuries or ageing. Duo hosts rehab exercises, goals, music and multiplayer quests, flipping the mental model from "let's do ankle rehab today" to "hey, can you keep up with me for the next 10 minutes?"

WeCooked: ask the kitchen a question, hear the answer

A 25-gram camera attachment for ordinary glasses that lets visually impaired cooks work independently: AI vision reads the scene and answers through one earbud in under 3 seconds. No buttons, because hands in a kitchen are wet, greasy or holding a pan. Mid-hack their camera ribbon connector physically snapped; they pivoted the phone into camera-mic-hotspot duty and the design survived. Danger alerts announce themselves, and a link-loss watchdog fails loud, never silent.

Wheely: the wheelchair that plays like a game

A navigation game a kid in a wheelchair steers themselves, collecting blocks the way other kids collect PokΓ©mon, so learning to operate the chair is fun rather than something that marks them out as different. Next on the roadmap: a tilt-prediction safety layer (ESP32 + gyro) that projects where a lean is headed and buys back the under-a-second warning window before a tip, with voice and vibration only. Nothing to look at mid-fall.

Lakshveer, 8 years old, and teammates Vamsi, Adarsh and Dhruva took on a problem most adults skipped: people with hand disabilities can't use standard game controllers, so they can't play computer games independently. Team Laksh set out to bring the joy of gaming back. He spent day two building a gaming controller operated with feet.

A clip-on AI module for the glasses you already own: a tiny front-facing camera sees what the user sees, on-device AI runs OCR and object detection, and a bone-conduction earpiece speaks the result in real time. Menus, intersections, crowded hallways, all without the cloud.

Blind users know their own homes, until someone moves a chair. Team Matrix’s knee-worn ultrasonic band compares the room against a 3D map and only speaks up when something has changed.

The room ranged from school kids shipping their first sketch to hardware founders mentoring between sprints. Real wheelchair users tested mobility builds mid-hack, keeping every prototype honest about the problem it claimed to solve.
